How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture has been around for years. It is a major part of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  China and other Asian nations have used it for centuries as a part of their holistic health care.  The way acupuncture works is that it stimulates your meridians.  Meridians are just lines of energy that flow through your body.  Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that just about any illness can be traced back to an imbalance of the flow of energy in your body.

These imbalance can be treated in a number of ways and one of them is acupuncture.  The acupuncturist will first exam different areas of your body to try and identity the imbalance. Once the imbalance has been identified, the acupuncturist will know exactly which meridian to treat. The acupuncturist will then proceed to mark a series of specific acupuncture points based on your particular circumstance. Needles will be placed in certain spots with the purpose of triggering a change in the flow of energy.

Once the needles have been inserted, they may be twisted, tapped or even electrified to further help change the flow of energy. In the West, the debate is still raging over whether or not acupuncture is effective or not. Many studies have been done but the results are mixed. Some studies say acupuncture is an extremely effective practice, while others say its not effective at all.

One thing is for sure, acupuncture does indeed stimulate the flow of chemical compounds throughout the body. It has also successfully been used as a form of anesthesia. Some doctors praise it and will highly recommend it, while other doctors despise it and think its a waste of time. At the end of the day, whether it is effective or not is a decision that you will have to make for yourself by trying it out.
