So I’ve been working on rehabbing my left LCL knee injury. I do some cardio first (not the treadmill, too much of a pounding on the knee) then I do some light weighted knee exercises on machines to strengthen the muscles surrounding the knee. Every few days I also use the foam roller to break up the muscles in my thigh and upper legs so that they don’t get too stiff. I havn’t gotten a chance to use my EMS/TENS unit as I had planned since I have been pretty busy but I will definitely have to now! (you’ll see why)
It seems to be working pretty well so far. I went hiking in the Adirondacks last weekend and I was a bit nervous about how the knee was going to hold up but I ended up not having much trouble at all. I hiked the East side of Dix mountain on an unmarked trail. It was relatively easy till the very top when we encountered the “slides” which is basically bare rock for maybe a mile? We hiked the hardest part of the slides and the four of us were on our hands and feet, bear crawling up a 60 degree incline, then hitting a wall of underbrush! Literally a thick wall of underbrush you had to bushwack through, or crawl under sometimes. My best friend was getting scared and wanted to turn around before reaching the top because he was worried about having to go back down the slides in his exhausted condition. I had to use all my powers of persuasion and even threaten him a bit to get him to the top.
We finally reached the summit and there were beautiful views of the high peaks in all directions. It was a good thing that we didn’t turn around because there ended up being a relatively easy trail down from the top that we had missed on the way up.
On the way down however I fell off a cliff after tripping and trying to re-gain my balance. I ended up flying 15ft down headfirst into a bunch of rocks, splitting my head open and scraping a bunch of hair (that I had been growing for over a year) right off my head.
